Another busy loft and DIY day

Loft

It’s been a long day but I’ve managed to get a fair amount of work done today. I’ve now managed to insulate between the new joists and get half of the loft boards screwed down on top. Just need to lay some lighting cable and install some pipe for the radiator which will be installed once the stud partition wall has been built. Perhaps I’ll get a chance to do this at the weekend but we’ll have to see how things pan out with cabling and plumbing. ๐Ÿ™‚

Abel's room

I also managed to complete painting the ceiling in Abel’s room and got a first coat of paint onto two walls. Hopefully I can complete this in the evenings this week so I can concentrate on making further progress in the loft.

Joists installed into the loft

Joists installed

So, Rob and Fred came back from C&T Building Services to complete the next stage in our loft conversion. The new 7×3 joists were inserted into existing steels previously installed and now that this is completed I can continue with the rest of the project myself. I would have attempted it myself but life is a little more hectic now that little Abel has arrived. ๐Ÿ™‚

Abel Eli Harrison

Abel

Our little boy Abel Eli Harrison was born yesterday at 10:03 weighing a hefty 9lbs 1oz (which is a common occurrence in Phoebe’s family). Pheebs did a sterling job in getting him out after a 22 hour labor which took it’s toll on the both of us (but mainly Pheebs!). I guess they don’t call it labor for nothing and it’ll certainly give Pheebs something to discuss with her NCT friends. It was a beautiful yet terrifying experience for us both and for one split second I thought I’d lost my beautiful wife when Abel popped out as she hemorrhaged quite badly and lots (and I mean lots) of doctors and nurses rushed into the room to do their job of sorting it out. Thankfully they did a fantastic job and things were under control pretty quickly. Once things were sorted we both started to get to know our little fella and it’s certainly going to be a beautiful and challenging experience bringing him up! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d like to say a big thank you to all the midwifes and staff at the Basingstoke Hospital Maternity ward for helping deliver Abel and look after Pheebs. A big special thank you should go to our dedicated midwifes Trudy and Mandy who stayed with us during the delivery!

Steel put into the loft

Steel support

We finally had the steel loft supports installed today and Rob & Fred from C and T Building Services did a fantastic job in one day. Now that those are installed, we can then think about getting the new floor joists in so I can then continue finishing the room which will be turned into my office / spare room. We’re going to eventually get stairs put in but for the time being I’m going to apply for building regs by getting the plans approved by the local council. This means that all the work will conform to the current building regulations which should make our lives easier when we come to sell (if we ever do). ๐Ÿ˜‰
