It was that time of year again when Pheeb’s, Abel and I headed off to a holiday cottage with the rest of Pheeb’s family. This time we headed to Waterhouse in the Peek District and stayed in an old house which in a previous life was a former restaurant. It was a fairly relaxing weekend with plenty of walking, good food and a visit to BlackBrook Zoological Park. Abel seemed to enjoy all the attention he got from his Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles and Cousins…. 😉
Pheebs, Abel and I have just spent a lovely couple of days staying at Hideways in Hay-on-Wye in a converted stable. It was a special weekend not only spending quality family time together but as it was Pheeb’s birthday so we enjoyed a relaxing weekend around Hay (as much as you can with a baby). 😉
Our little boy Abel Eli Harrison was born yesterday at 10:03 weighing a hefty 9lbs 1oz (which is a common occurrence in Phoebe’s family). Pheebs did a sterling job in getting him out after a 22 hour labor which took it’s toll on the both of us (but mainly Pheebs!). I guess they don’t call it labor for nothing and it’ll certainly give Pheebs something to discuss with her NCT friends. It was a beautiful yet terrifying experience for us both and for one split second I thought I’d lost my beautiful wife when Abel popped out as she hemorrhaged quite badly and lots (and I mean lots) of doctors and nurses rushed into the room to do their job of sorting it out. Thankfully they did a fantastic job and things were under control pretty quickly. Once things were sorted we both started to get to know our little fella and it’s certainly going to be a beautiful and challenging experience bringing him up! 🙂
I’d like to say a big thank you to all the midwifes and staff at the Basingstoke Hospital Maternity ward for helping deliver Abel and look after Pheebs. A big special thank you should go to our dedicated midwifes Trudy and Mandy who stayed with us during the delivery!
Pheebs and I had our final NCT class today and I thought it would be good to capture a picture of our fellow parents to be before everyone pops and drops. The course was very informative and definitely worth attending for parents to be. However it covers the very traditional approach to childbirth which we’re hoping not to follow. For us we’re going to use the Hypnobirthing method to promote a natural birth rather than a Dr directed/led method. Out of the entire group, Phoebe and I are the only couple who are having a home birth (assuming no complications arise) so should be interesting once all the babies are born to compare notes! Gulp, since completing the course, pending arrival of little person seems that ever real and getting closer….. stay tuned. 😉
