Yep, with the release of Solaris 10 5/08 U5 it was time to upgrade bean (my V100 loft server) from Solaris 10 8/07 U4 but unfortunately I ran into bug 6652201 – “liveupgrade failed from s10u4 to s10u5_05, package install failed, because 7za cannot be found” with lots of packages failing to install as seen in the upgrade_failed_pkgadds log file. So I had to add SUNWbzip from Solaris 10 5/08 U5 to my Solaris 10 8/07 U4 installation before using live upgrade before the following sequence of events:
lucreate -n sol10_508 -m /:/dev/md/dsk/d0:ufs,mirror -m /:/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0:detach,attach,preserve
luupgrade -u -n sol10_508 -s /net/gromit/export/install/media/10_508
luactivate sol10_508
init 0
boot disk0
