Palenque -> Flores (Guatamala)

Flores
Up early again for our 9 hour trip to Flores. Was completely taken in by the blanket of mist that was seeping through the jungle and mountains. Mesmerizing. We headed towards the Guatemalan border via the same route exactly as yesterday (we didn’t know!) We had breakfast again at the same place and then packed ourselves into a boat and taken up the river to Guatemala. We think the boat was too overloaded as it leaned to one side and we had some interesting moments as the current was quite strong creating eddies. Phoebe thought we were going to sink and was gripping on to me. Once we got ashore, we were greeted by a local who helped us onto a bus for a short journey to immigration (where we saw a desperately suffering cat with a broken back leg, horrible…..). Eventually we stopped for a short break and then onto Flores. We all managed to check into the same hotel with a fantastic view across the lake (also with a very interesting, cold, earth free shower!). We popped out for a quick snack and a beer. We then changed venue and had further beers and dinner before heading to head very early again.
