Woke up quite early with Pheebs at the other end of the bed! (she did not sleep very well so had to change ends). We got up and wandered into the restaurant for breakfast. We met Doug and Heather and sat down at a nearby table where Willhien joined us alosng with Jennifer (although there was some tension with Willhien and his austere persona). After that we got ready to meet Carlos at 9am but he did not show so I had to go and knock on his door (he overslept). The plan was set to visit a waterfall down the road and a private bus was sorted by Carlos. So most of us took the private bus to the Devils Pot and the ardous journey up and down into the valley( wow, that certainly got the heart working). After that we headed back to Banos for lunch. Pheebs abd I headed to the Hood restaurant where we bumped into the girls. After that we headed back to the hotel to get ready for a walk up the mountain to see the Cross. Jennifer, Pheebs and I made it up the long steep climb (took about an hour) to the top where we got a very good view of Banos! (a good vista point). Once we had finished we headed back down the mou ntain and had a shower back at the hotel. From there Pheebs and I headed to the massage shop for a much needed massage. Actully this was our first Swedish massage (actually Pheebs went for the hot stone option). It felt a little strange to take all one’s clothes off and lie under a sheet awaiting the massage to begin. I must say that the Swedish massage was much better than the one we had the day before! After that Pheebs and I returned back to the hotel for another shower and to get ready for dinner at the Argentine restaurant. It was quite a quirky place with stuffed clothes hanging up (in a hammock) and a stuffed cow’s head! Unfortunately Pheebs chicken was undercooked so it want not quite what we planned. The steak I had was excellent but Pheebs chicken had to be sent back to be cooked again. After finishing dinner we headed back through the rain to our hotel room to chill out before going to bed! (and no we did not leave a tip)
Nighty night

Shangrila to Banos

Woke up a little jaded from the night before and had breakfast. After that we completed our packing and put our baggage on to the lift to take back up to the top. From there we took a public bus to Banos. Once there we settled into our hotel and sorted our washing out (Carlos took us to the laundry shop!) After a quick tour of Banos we had lunchin a sandwich place. (Not without visiting the cuy bbq with guinea pigs on a stick. (They did not look particularly appealing for lunch). From there Pheebs and I wandered around for a while and attempted to visit the odd museum but it was closed so we went for a chinese massage instead!! After that we headed back to the hotel for a shower and then chilled until it was time for dinner. Carlos took us to a French restaurant which was not too bad. After that we headed back to our hotel where the world fell out for me (Still once the world stabilised we both went to sleep). Although Pheebs did not sleep very well after all.

Pheebs and I woke up reasonably refreshed. We got dressed and then met the others for breakfast. After which we all got on a truck and headed down the road (50 mins) to pick up a motorised canoe to take us up river to an animal rescue centre. That took 30 mins to get there where we had a guided tour of the centre. They actually rescue injured animals and experts treat them and then attempt to release them back into the wild. Pheebs really liked the tree squirrel monkeys who were very dinky and roamed free about the place. Lucky we did not hang around too long as they do like to explore people! We also saw small turtles,a small camen, cappochin and some large elusive cats (forgot the name). From there we got the canoe back to the truck and then back to the hotel for lunch. After lunch we got ready tubing (Pheebs, Rachael, Jennifer, Sarah and myself) and were led by Pedro. The only bad thing was walking down the 400 steps to the river. From there we floated down going through various rapids before being picked up by a bridge and taken back to the hotel. It was fun but got a little cold at the end. Once I got back we had a hot shower before beer time! After dinner we did some Salsa in the bar for quite a while before heading to bed ready for our next travelling day.

Pimpilala to Shangrila

We both woke up at light and eventually got up and had breakfast with everyone. After breakfast we sorted ourselves out and then headed out to the local school to visit the kids and teacher then some English in what ever form we deemed necessary! David gave a maths lesson and then Pheebs and Rachael did head, shoulders and knees and toes in two groups of kids which went down well. Heather did another maths lesson followed by the rest of the girls (Sarah, Jennifer, Pheebs, Rachael) doing the 12 days of Christmas (ok it was after the event). We then had various singing examples by the kids and they also gave us a Spanish alphabet lesson! I did a game of British Bulldog outside in the heat and we then played a local variation which the kid, won as it was very hot out and we got knackered! After that we headed back to chill out for a little while before having lunch. After lunch we sorted our stuff out said goodbye to the family and caught a truck to Shangrila. Once there we walled down to the treehouse accommodation for a beer and to enjoy the view. After that we showered and chilled out again. The view from the treehouse was amazing looking out over the tree canopies, and a river winding through the vegetation. Some of our fellow travellers went down the 400 odd steps to the river for a swim (Rachael and Jennifer) but Pheebs and I just chilled reading and having a few beers. We then all had dinner together and then played “killerâ€? in which you have two red cards to signify the killer and a spy card (who knows who the killers are and hints to the others who they are)! I managed to be the killer twice and managed to
wipe 5 folks out. You kinda talk and attempt to guess who the killers can kill one person (so they are out of the game). After that everyone votes who he killer is and the person with the most votes is out. After a couple of games Pheebs and I went to bed (with mossy nets up) for a good night’s sleep.
