Welcome to the music section! Here you’ll find links to my musical ideas and projects in progress. It’s been a while but looks like another band is in the pipeline so watch this space. I’m going to be re-using alot of my old material from the old band and try and re-vamp it into something, hopefully better than before!
K-ode
Finally, K-ode has been born. This is my latest band and consists of the following:
Lead Vocals – John Martin
Guitar – Andy Harrison
Guitar – Kev Walls
Bass – Alex Bowen
Drums – John Foster
Hopefully we should be gigging soon but I’ll let eveyone know when as I’m sure it will change the world of rock forever…..yeah!
The Old Band

Back in early the early nineties when the world was younger and I was studying at College, a Band was formed the likes of which no one would ever see again, which is true as no one has heard from us again! That band was Big Mauve Xylophone (of BMX for short) a five piece bunch of musical misfits lead by myself! The plan was simple, make noise, make more noise and be strange (although Neil the Drummer was the best). We used to practice at the Workhouse Practice Studios above a warehouse in Aldershot once a week and attempt to make music. The name however was short lived and got renamed to Apathy (coz we couldn’t be bothered to do anything!). The band consisted of Rob Knowles on Vocals, Me on Guitar, Dan Frost on Guitar, Sally Brogden on Bass and Neil Grevitt on Drums.
Equipment
My home studio consists of the following:
* Ibanez S series (Natrual Finish) with a DiMarzio Fred in the bridge and a DiMarzio PAF pro in the neck
* Ibanez S series (Blue) with standard pickups
* Hohner 3GT Steiberger Headless
* Ovation roundback acoustic
* The unknown bass
* Marshall VS100 amp
* Zoom GFX 8 effects pedal
* Zoom PS02 palm top recorder
The Sounds
The following is a list of recorded material written by myself which I’ll one day form the basis for an album…..but hey…pigs might fly. Please note, that these tracks are demos and do not represent the finished song! For each song/piece I’m listing here, you should be able to play straight from my website (as long as you’ve got flash installed in your browser). Any comments or suggestions then please drop me a mail!
She Meant Nothing To Me – The first draft recorded at Kev’s House 10/08/04. It’s kinda a mixed emotions track written following spliting up with a previous girlfriend.
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Serendipity 1995 – The original simple guitar progression I came up with which I couldn’t just leave on it’s own. Heavily influenced by “Satch” I kept adding little guitar parts to enhance the sound. This is the first rough recording I did on a four track and then transfered over to wav before being converted to mp3. This track is dedicated to my late Nan Helen!
Serendipity – I thought I’d re-record my earlier attempt into Logic Express. Somehow the original feeling has been lost without the hiss from tape!
Still I think I’ll keep working on this until I really happy with it…..maybe it’ll take years……doh!
Perfect Girl – The rough vocals mix recorded at Kev’s house on 06/10/04. Mmmm, kinda sad how the idea came up but still it’s a song idea. Based on a girl I fancied down my local pub a couple of years ago which didn’t amass to anything due to my beer drinking habits. Never get blind drunk and ask one out….. doh.
Listen – First take, recorded at Cooper Road 08/10/04 on my Zoom Palm top recording studio. Yep, it’s a bit poppy and could probably due with enhancing somehow….again another for the drawing board. It’s a slow chilled mellow song which is very poppy and probably a bit cheesy! Hey, it’s only an idea……
Fosters – Ah, the track that goes nowwhere at the moment so my buddy Adrian says. I think he’s right but I think has potential. Again I started building up layers in Logic to see where I could go……but it needs some changes!
Playing – Hey, just one of those pieces that gets developed on the fly again playing with Logic which is where the name come from…….really! More fret board work probably than necessary but hey…I get carried away.
Waiting for Work – Yep, as the name says I was waiting at home playing the guitar before the start of my next nightshift. Again built up with a basic drum loop and tracks layed down one after the other. It’s got kinda a funky feel which I like to work on and perhaps produce a live version with the band! Watch this space…….
