Another milestone today in that I reached the grand old age of 38! Celebrated with a family and friends with a meal at the Anchor Inn, at Lower Froyle. I’d definitely recommend a visit as the atmosphere, staff, beer and food all top notch!

Man Camp

Man Camp 2011 proved to be just as messy and more extravagant than previous years, with the return to Hurst View campsite. We also were lucky enough to use Rob’s new purchase a large bell tent which certainly made camping much more fun and comfortable (or was the beer?). We re-visited the Gun Inn in Keyhaven as well as Chequers in Lymington to sample the local beer and cider. We also enjoyed fire’s in the evening, lots of bbq’d meat and some entertaining conversations from “back in the day”! The photo’s from the weekend can be viewed here.

A walk around Chawton and fun with the RAT

Spend a great afternoon walking around Chawton using the walk from Village Walks in Hampshire with Pheebs, Craig, Nicki and Tony. Took lots of Photo’s using my camera with my new Sigma 18-250mm lens which you can view here. Prior to the walk we had a pub lunch at the Grey Friar Inn in the pub garden enjoying the sunshine. After the walk we headed back to Craig’s to get ready for our second event of the day with an evening on the Real Ale Train which runs on the Watercress line. The evening was amusing with some interesting characters on the train but I think next time we’ll do it in style with an evening on the dinning carriage with a full course meal!

Camping with the boys

Surprisingly enough, I managed to escape the wife (only joking, she had college work to complete for her pending degree exam so would have been in the way!) for a weekend to go camping with the boys in the New Forest. Again, we opted forHurst View in the New Forest for further adventures in The Gun and The Chequers Inn. Lucky for us the weather was good, the beer was good and the company was good so it was a good weekend. I think next year we’re going to have another change of venue as we’ve been to this campsite quite a few times now (twice in one year now as the Stag Do was here as well). So until then…….

Yep, it was Dave’s stag do at our friendly Ashurst campsite in the New Forest for Beer, Meats and more Beer. Everyone had a good time and it was nice to catch up with some old friends (and I don’t mean that literally!). Still there’s only so much beer you can drink…..or is there?

Making Beer round 2

Yes, folks it’s beer time again accept I’m using a King Keg brewing barrel a work friend lent me. The beauty of these beasts is that you don’t need to add sugar or bottle afterwards as you can pour straight from the barrel. The only problem is that you only get a couple of weeks once ready to drink! I guess I’ll have to get some friends round to help taste. hick. If it works out I’m going to have to purchase one from here along with another Woodforde’s Wherry Bitter kit.

Bottling beer time

So, just before I escape off to Italy for my second boarding holiday I’ve just bottled the beer that has been fermenting for the last week. I did have to purchase a heat pad to put underneath the fermenting bin so it can raise the temperature to between 21 and 27C which is the ideal brewing temperature as I was getting around 18C. So now the beer has been bottled I’ve got to wait for another couple of weeks before I can taste it….

Making Beer

Yep, that’s right I’ve brought a Coopers home brew set from The Home Brew Shop in North Camp Farnborough and made my first brew. It’s got about a week before it’ll be ready for bottling and then another two weeks before it’s ready for drinking. Stay tuned for the details of the drinking experience…..

The Woking Beer Festival

Attended the Woking Beer Festival with the lads at the leisure center and consumed some very tasty beer. My favorite of the afternoon was Wells & Young’s Winter Warmer but it should have been my last of the day. Unfortunately I popped into the local on the way back for several more…….and then consumed several cans when I got home with dinner. Suffice to say the hangover the next day wasn’t very pleasant…..
